Cadet Programs
One of the three missions of CAP is cadet programs. The program serves as a youth program which teaches military discipline, drill, leadership, and a set of skills to succed in a military or civilian career. Cadets can join as early as 12 years old and remain a cadet until they are 21 years old. http://www.capmembers.com/cadet_programs/new_cadet_help/ << This link is good for new cadets to check out.
Leadership
In order to promote, cadets must pass a leadership test. The leadership handbook is self study material which the cadet reads and takes a test online. These are basic leadership principles taught on paper. In addition, cadets will apply leadership by serving on staff positions and attending squadron, wing, and national activities. Leadership training never ends and cadets are encouraged to promote faster to learn more and experience more to grow as a leader.
Aerospace Education
Another requirement to promote, cadets have 6 modules to self study and test on. They will apply their education through the model rocketry program, orientation flights, and many other creative workshops.
Physical Training
Cadets must pass a PT test for every promotion. All cadets are physically fit and live a healthy lifestyle. PT also builds teamwork and motivates the cadets to work as a team to advance in CAP.
Cadet Activities
There are many activities for cadets to attend and advance their education and training to better serve their community, state, and nation. Cadets will attend Basic Encampment which is a one week long basic training environment. After that they can attend leadership schools, return to encampment as staff, and go to national special cadet activities. These include but are not limited to National Emergency Services Academy, Combat Controller Orientation Course, National Flight Academy, EAA Air Academy, Engineering Technologies Academy, and many more. Activities can be broken up into 4 categories: Air Force Careers, Aviation Careers, Leadership Careers and Technology Careers. There is a national activity for everyone out there.
Aside from national activities are wing and squadron activities. The wing (state) will host encampments, search and rescue schools, local cadet training schools to name a few. At the squadron level you will participate in community service activities such as assisting in parking aircraft at airshows and maintaining flightline integrity.
Cadet Staff
The Cadet Program is a cadet-run program. Higher ranking cadets with leadership and skill will serve in roles such as cadet commander and flight sergeant. Newer members with some experience will serve as an element leader or fill a non-command staff role such as aerospace officer or leadership officer. New members will serve under these cadets and grow and learn. They will promote and continue the cycle. The cadet program develops mature youth with a base of core values: respect, integrity, volunteer service, and excellence. The cadets live the core values and work together as a self-led team to serve their community and prepare themselves for successful military and/or civilian careers.
